web location converter and snow leopard issues
summary
At this time, Web Location Converter is not fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The new OS breaks one of our key features: using drag-and-drop to convert web location (.webloc) files. All other features seem to work properly.
If you're using Snow Leopard and you need to convert webloc files, then please read on.
details
When you drag a webloc file on to Web Location Converter, the system is supposed to open our application and give us information about each file. Then we convert the files.
Snow Leopard does not do that. Instead, Snow Leopard opens and immediately quits Web Location Converter, before we can execute any code. Then it opens your web browser and goes to the URL embedded in the first webloc file. When dragging multiple webloc files, Snow Leopard may also return a -600 error.
This prevents Web Locations Converter from working with your webloc files via drag-and-drop.
workaround
At this time, the only known workaround is to avoid drag-and-drop. Instead, double-click Web Location Converter, then select your webloc files from inside the application. You can select multiple files by holding down the Command ⌘ key.
Obviously, this makes Web Location Converter much less useful on Snow Leopard.
when will this be fixed?
We don't know. This bug has been reported to Apple. We have to wait until they fix it.
Apple customers can express their concerns via the Mac OS X product feedback page. Developers with an ADC account can file a bug against Mac OS X.
We regret the inconvenience this has caused. We hope Apple can fix this bug soon.
